Good Night Gold Dust: “Honey”
Good Night Gold Dust of Mankato, Minnesota, are hard to button down. Even across the space of their new EP, they cover several different genres, mostly various types of folk- and blues-rock. While the execution occasionally comes off as scattered, there’s a link that holds the tunes together: Laura Schultz’s sultry-smooth vocals, which give the sound a wounded intensity a la Chan Marshall. The tune that takes advantage of it best is “Honey,” a moody glockenspiel-accented piece in the oeuvre that I like to refer to as “blues noir.” Check it out below (and also the video which appears to be the second one they have made for this song). If you dig it, you can catch the band’s next performance in the Twin Cities at Cause on 1/18.
