Rupert Angeleyes: “When the Sangria Dies”

Rupert Angeleyes is Kyle Sobczak, one of the members of local band Sleeping in the Aviary.  Angeleyes is Sobczak’s solo gig – a lo fi foray into experimental pop and warped synth weirdness.  Sobczak has released two cassettes as Angeleyes already, and has a third When the Sangria Dies, coming out on 8/3.  You can stream the titular track below (as well as the rest over at his bandcamp).  If you are a fan of Of Montreal or even Beck’s brands of off-kilter pop, you might find a lot to enjoy in Sobczak’s bizarre, yet toe-tapping hook-laden tunes.   The cassette release party will take place at the Hexagon bar on 8/3 and will also feature Speed’s the Name, Umami, and Tickle Torture.
