Teengirl Fantasy “End” & “Motif”+ Gatekeeper “Serpent”
Electronic music can often get pigeonholed, especially by those who think the whole scene is based around Skrillex bullshit and EDM rich kid raves. Two bands who are in town for a show tonight, Teengirl Fantasy and Gatekeeper, help to prove this isn’t the case. Teengirl Fantasy have a new album on True Panther and highlight the epic, coloruful strand of electronic music that incorporates soulful elements in a way that make the songs feel even more bouyant. Gatekeeper fall on the opposite end of the spectrum, creating chilly, distant music that gives the impression that not only was it created by robots, but those robots are pissed and they are going to take over the world. Both bands do what they do well, and even if they aren’t the flagbearers for the electronic music scene, and are well worth checking out.
