100% Silk Songs (Roland Tings, Maria Minerva, Leech)
I make no bones about my adoration for the Not Not Fun label 100% Silk, so it was with great anticipation that the first songs from their 2013 catalog began trickling out onto the interwebs. Listen below to songs from Leech, Maria Minerva and Roland Tings.
Roland Tings is actually an older release (the Milky Way 12″ dropped in Aug/2012), but a track just popped up on the groups soundcloud page. The song, titled “Roland Beat,” sounds the most like “doctrine” 100% Silk, with a sticky synths bubbling to the surface behind a steady, four on the floor drum beat. Leech are a new group to the label who are releasing a 12″ titled Tusks this week. They venture into the dark house territory, with an storming groove tempered with sampled vocals and what sounds like distorted steel drums, giving it a murky and overcast feel. The release that probably will get the most attention in the new Blessed EP from Estonian electronic singer Maria Minerva, who released the well recieved LP Will Happiness Find Me on Not Not Fun last year. The track, titled “Black Magick,” (above) is a woozy, scattered brained take on electronic tinged pop music, a far cry from the bliss-house/disco that is generally the focus of the label.
As always, keep tabs on the great work coming from Amanda Brown and crew and buy straight from the source HERE.
