Bell Gardens “Through the Rain”
Many bands claim the Beach Boys as an influence, but a substantial majority fall flat on their faces when actually compared to the legendary group. At least for one song, Burger Records group Bell Gardens seem to hold their own in this regard. The lush melodies (and chimes!) of classic Brian Wilson is filtered through a hazy Elephant 6 lens on “Through the Rain,” a song that has one foot in the past and one foot clearly in the present. I haven’t heard the rest of the record yet, but if the other tracks even come close to this track, it will be getting a lot of late-summer love on my record player.
