Stream: Circuit des Yeux & Spires That in the Sunset Rise (Show tonight w/ Food Pyramid & Brute Heart)
Both groups grab your ankle from beneath the bed and pull you into a scary abiss, albeit in slightly different fashions. With “Veiled Undertow,” pysch-folk mainstays Spires That In the Sunset Rise expose dark corners via dissonent acoustic guitar and haunted piano, letting ambient vocals float ominously throughout the track. “Acarina,” from the forthcoming Circuit des Yeux LP Overdue, feels like a million pounds of bricks crashing down into a empty void, a darkness so big it seems to engulf everything around it. It is the terror of minimalism, a haunted soundscape that leaves the real details to your imagination, magnifying the power of the void. Both bands will be performing tonight at Cause with two of the very best our local scene has to offer, Brute Heart and Food Pyramid. For $5 you’ll get two interesting and forward thinking national acts and two of the most inventive groups the Twin Cities have to offer.
