Gigamesh “Bad Girls” (Donna Summer Remix) + Big Cats! “Good Life” (Kanye West Remix)
Two Minnesota artists who do great stuff in their own regards have recently taken swings at some classic material from other, decidedly less local musicians. Local electronic stalwart Gigamesh got a coveted spot on the Donna Summer tribute album Love to Love You Donna, alongside artists like Frankie Knuckles, Chromeo, Hot Chip and Holy Ghost!. His reworking takes an already infectious song and adds a layer of glistening synths to make the song sound even richer and more full than it previously had been. Producer Big Cats! went the opposite direction in his reworking of the Kanye West jam “Good Life,” giving the song a more somber, reflective feeling. It is a song that is boastful and buoyant in its original form, but feels like a hazy, deathbed memory in the form below. You can stream both below.
