I don’t know exactly what it is that has made me listen to this 10 minute song dozens of times over the last month, but it is something. Todd Terje has proven his meddle over a years of remixes and original material, but there is something different and more captivating about this track. Taking a a track from Norwegian fiddler Ola Kvernberg’s LP of the same name, a record Terje is apparently smitten with on it’s own merits, Terje creates a endlessly enjoyable remix of a folk song that almost ventures into downbeat house music. A song that makes no sense on paper (a guy who makes disco remixing a folk song) has multiple chill-incuding moments over its span, especially when the background vocals drop in about halfway through the track. Despite my attempts here, this isn’t a song that will be justified by words. Listen below…I’d imagine you will either join me in awe or dismiss it outright as something not for you. I can’t imagine anything in between.
