Beat Detectives get soulful on lush new downtempo house track
Beat Detectives are more often woozy than warm, and their aesthetic is more often on the damaged end of the spectrum than the glossy end. Which meant that the latest track they released, a quasi-R&B jam titled “Phase Club” was even more of a surprise. Over skittish high-hats and a hypnotic, gentle loop, the song features mostly distinguishable vocals and what seems to be something resembling a formal song structure. But fear not, this isn’t a syrupy sell-out by our favorite house expats, but an interesting new twist on their always great sound. Not sure if it is part of a new tape or what, but enjoy it below.
