Julianna Barwick: Cloudbank

93/100

One of the best new artists I missed out on in 2009, Julianna Barwick is making waves with her uber-gorgeous, intricately crafted vocal creations.  Making entire songs almost entirely crafted from layering her own voice, Barwick is a talented newcomer to the “loop crowd.”  The first term that comes to mind when I think of her singing is “angelic,”  however Barwick’s angels are of a more primal nature, as evidenced by the music’s untamed fierceness.  Think those killer cherubs that came out of the ark in Indiana Jones.  Not sure if the single “Cloudbank” also kills nazis but I wouldn’t be all that surprised.
