The Starfolk: Into the Clouds

The Starfolk are a new Minneapolis band that is made up of former members of the Owls and the Hang Ups. They recently released a split EP with Typsy Panthre (a band that also features Starfolk vocalist Allison Lebonne) on the MPLS LTD Label. While “Wake Up Machine” is my favorite track of the band’s two recorded singles, I could only manage to get a hold of “Into the Clouds,” a decent song in its own right. Clouds starts off with a Pixies-esque bassline and builds into a respectable set of pop hooks. LeBonne’s disaffected vocals are reminiscent of Elephant Six stalwarts Dressy Bessy – a melancholy daydream with a bubblegum center. Lovely stuff.
