Erykah Badu: Window Seat
My first impression of Erykah Badu’s first song from her upcoming New Amerykah Pt. II (Return Of The Ankh), the retro soul “Window Seat,” is that is disappointingly tame compared to the tracks from her last album New Amerykah Part One: 4th World War. The album, which heavily scratched her P-Funk itch, was a wild, funky, empowering take on soul and funk music. Comparatively, “Window Seat” is simply just really excellent soul music (not quite a put down, I know, but disappointing none the less). A simmering, heartfelt track, “Window Seat” is just fine, I just hope she brings the acid gobbling, spaced out funk from her last LP on the rest of the New Amerykah Pt. II (Return Of The Ankh).
