Kelley Stoltz: Pinecone
90/100
In a couple of weeks, Secret Seven Records is releasing a treasure trove of unheard tracks from some of San Francisco’s best psychedelic/garage/freak folk artists. The LP is titled In a Cloud: New Sounds from San Francisco and the release is limited to 500 vinyl-only copies. While I am really digging the new work from Sonny & the Sunsets, Thee Oh Sees, Jacques Butters, and Tim Cohen; for me it’s Kelley Stoltz’s “Pinecone” that takes the trophy. While the songwriter often gets compared to Brian Wilson (and for good reason) this track is all Beatles, with Stoltz’s vocals bearing an uncanny resemblance to Paul McCartney’s. It is lovely, lovely stuff.
