Sonny & The Sunsets: Heart of Sadness
79/100
Secret Seven Records recently released In a Cloud: New Sounds from San Francisco, a terrific compilation of San Francisco artists (including Kelley Stolz’s “Pinecone,” which we posted earlier). Here is another one of the record’s many gems: Sonny & the Sunsets’ “Heart of Sadness.” Sonny & Co. is a throwback pop group of whom the aformentioned Stoltz is an occasional contributor; with a sound that brings to mind the British invasion influenced garage groups of the mid sixties. “Heart of Sadness” is a pretty simple guitar hook over a straightforward rhythm, but it’s a very effective vehicle for the Sonny Smith’s vocals which are pretty sunny (excuse the pun) and guileless for a song about sadness.

Sonny & The Sunsets – Heart of Sadness
I’d highly recommend the Sonny & the Sunsets “Tomorrow Is Alright” album from last year, one of my favorites albums of the year.
Thanks for supporting Sonny & the Sunsets!
