Strange Boys: Be Brave
77/100
I just heard the Strange Boys ’ eponymous track off of their recent LP Be Brave on a late boozy night, and the setting couldn’t have been more appropriate. The sloppy Nuggets era garage rockabilly, demented saxophone, and Adam Sambol’s mushmouth vocals all contribute to form a stumbling fun, yet slightly sinister sound. It’s a sound that could easily be the less-innocent alternative to the early sixties sock-hop, the one that takes place on the other side of town where the gin flows freely and the hips like to move.
