Crystal Antlers
You can’t fault a band for refining their sound as they progress over time, but it is unfortunate when the technological advances end up taking away from the primal joy that the band possess. That raw youthful energy and naivety helped to propel the band Crystal Antlers to critical acclaim with their excellent debut EP. Their first full length release, Tentacles, softened the edges on the bands sound, much to the dismay of many of their fans. Unfortunately their latest release, the Little Sister/Dead Horses 7″, follows even more down this path. The barely controlled chaos that made them so exciting at first seems to be giving way to a more collected and less exciting sound that only serves to make the band sound like any number of bands playing right now, which is a shame for a group that started off so strong. They still are an amazing live band and hopefully they will be able to recapture some of that unbridled energy of both their live show and their initial EP in time for their next full length.
