Cults: Most Wanted
Cults seem like they could be the poster band for all those music blog haters out there who despise the hype obsessed attention span of the internet (see Chris “Whine” Garten” ). They are a Brooklyn based indie band who managed to get the blogosphere whipped into a frenzy before ever even playing their first gig. And yeah, on one hand that is completely ridiculous but on their other, hey, their music is also pretty damn good. “Go Outside” is fast becoming one of my favorite jams of the year and it is looking like the duo has some strong material on their new 7,” (now available for free here) including this song “Most Wanted.” The new track is another dreamy piano pop joint that features the dual male and female vocals of the still anonymous musicians. It works for reasons that are either A. Too complex to contemplate on a Monday morning or B. Deceptively simple, catchy melodies being the timeless currency of the music world. I am currently leaning towards the latter but hey, let’s all calm the fuck down and give the nascent band time to play a couple gigs before we either join their “cult” or condemn them .
