Japandroids "Younger Us"
Brazen indie rock duo Japandroids are back with their latest 7″ from their ongoing series with the pummeling “Younger Us.” The first 60 seconds or so had me a little worried, the lyrics were clumsily and too self referential, but at about the minute mark the band kicked into gear. It is at this point, when the drums double down and singer/guitarist Brian King sings/screams “Remember that night when you were already in bed said fuck it got up and drank with me instead.” He then starts listing some of his rebellious youthful indiscretions, each time with drummer David Prowse singing “give me the younger us.” It is a powerful song that really turns a simple concept, one that seemed like it was going to fall flat on its face at the start, and creates another amazing song from a band that has been on quite a roll the last year and a half.
