Mystery Jets: Flash a Hungry Smile
I am mildly afraid that Mystery Jets’ snappy britpop is of the variety that tends to grate on me like nails on a chalkboard upon repeated listens, but for the time being I am mostly enjoying this tune off of their upcoming record Serotonin (July 13th, Rough Trade). It has some crazy kazoo work and an anthemic chorus that recalls the arena rock days of the late seventies/early eighties. Probably doesn’t hurt that legendary producer Chris Thomas (Roxy Music, Sex Pistols, Pulp) did the recording. Just listen to the tune and try not to look at the photo (above) which makes it somewhat difficult to take these guys seriously.
