Noor Jehan: I Am Very Sorry
Chicago treasure hunters Numero Group messed up my last order. The good news though is that not only did they quickly send the correct item, they also threw in a copy of their record store day promotional compilation This LP Crashes Hard Drives. The record contains gems from some of the country’s best reissue labels such as Numero, Light in the Attic, Finders Keepers, and more. So far my favorite offering comes from renowned Indian singer Noor Jehan. Not only does “I am Very Sorry” sound like an old school big band Bollywood soundtrack, it also features enough weirdness to set it way ahead of its time. With eerie synths, psychedelic guitar, and bizarre accordion, its like a Southeast Asian Zappa, 20 or 30 odd years before the Mothers of Invention.
