Magic Kids: Summer

After a hard Pitchfork Festival weekend I was too tired to join Josh and Adam for Magic Kids’ set at the 7th St. Entry (opening for Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti) and now I am regretting it.  The band’s first single off of their upcoming debut Memphis (8/24 True Panther), is an immediately ear catching piece of pop.  Sounding sort of like young kids covering Divine Comedy songs with an added synthy twist, Magic Kids create complex, baroque pop that is syrupy and endearing.  I just hope that they come back to the Twin Cities soon so that I can remedy my mistake.

Great band. Kind of like a better version of girls with the added bonus that they aren’t mopey and depressed. They were also really infectious live…..looking forward to seeing them get attention.
