Better Than The Van: Couch Surfing for Bands
I can’t believe that noone thought of this idea sooner. Much like popular website couchsurfing.com (except for bands) Better Than The Van seeks to connect people with couches/spare beds/etc with the traveling folks who need them. Is your band playing a gig in Memphis tonight and you don’t have the cash to splurge on a Motel 6? BTTV may be able to connect you with a local who can provide a place to stay, free of charge. The bands get free lodging, the hosts (many whom are also in bands) get the social networking aspect of meeting new musically inclined people. In theory everyone wins. Not sure if they have a good plan in place to keep out the crazies, but here’s hoping they do, since this could potentially be an extremely valuable resource for touring bands.
