MAYMOK: Paradox/Time Machine
The Twin Cities experimental/noise talent pool is pretty deep right now. Now only are there some seriously promising collaborations happening out there (Coral Legs, Glass Buds) but in addition, everyone seems to be doing their own thing as well, pumping out solo joints in between each group effort. We have heard several great tunes recently from the Sam Molstad half of Coral Legs (recording as Orchard Thief) and now we get to hear from his collaborator Tim Krause, who records under the solo moniker MAYMOK. Krause currently has two songs available for download on his bandcamp page. “Paradox” and “Time Machine” are both from Krause’s forthcoming EP PRAXELL, which should be available this fall. Both tunes are low-fi, bedroom recordings made up of a mix of recorded instrumentals and electronic pitch distortion. MAYMOK’s aesthetic is a bit more ambient, melodic and dream-pop infused than Krause’s Coral Legs work, but it does contain some boundary pushing as well, especially in “Time Machine’s” highly distorted vocals. Highly recommended.
