The National “You Were a Kindness”
When the National rolled through town a few weeks back for two triumphant (and very sold out) shows at First Avenue, they also stopped by the Current to record a in-studio session. No big deal, right? Well, what are generally pretty mundane “play the hits and answer the question” can be flipped on their heads when a new song is debuted, especially from a band as popular as The National. In addition to playing three songs from their excellent album High Violet (“England,” “Bloodbuzz, OH” and “Terrible Love”), the group dusted off a High Violet outtake called “You Were a Kindness,” which sent the blogosphere into a tizzy. The track, which can be heard below, is a depressing piano balled that apparently was too somber for the record. Hear the whole session over at the Current.
