Adventure “Feels Like Heaven”

Adventure has a pedigree of a band I should like.  Part of Dan Deacon creative circle out in Baltimore (he actually plays as part of the live Deacon band) and a skilled electro-pop chillwave songsmith, the Benny Boeldt fronted project unfortunately  just come across as stale on their first single “Feels Like Heaven” from their upcoming Carpark  RecordsLP Lesser Known.  While it isn’t horrible, it does feel to me a little like the moment where the chillwave genre, done so well by bands like Neon Indian and Toro Y Moi, is officially jumping the shark. The rest of the album may be great (I haven’t heard it), but “Feels Like Heaven” feels less like heaven and more like a song exposing genre that has been stretched to its limit and is now entering its “that band didn’t get the memo that trend is over” phase.  As any music fan can attest, it will get worse before it gets better.

bummer, i agree this is real weird from adventure.

His self-titled is SO good and so very different than this. Listen to songs like “Travel Kid”, “Ultra Zone”, and “Battle Cat” and it easy to tell he has a knack for awesome compositions and good synth textures.

with that being said I have met benny and he is a super nice cat and his shows are pretty wicked. hope that the rest of this lp still contains some of the synthetic 8bit journey feel of his self-titled lp.
