WIS. REPUBLICAN PARTY: TRAVEL-GATE CONTINUES TO HAUNT GOV. DOYLE
US Fed News Service, Including US State News February 13, 2006 The Wisconsin Republican Party issued the following news release:
A campaign donor that gave Gov. Doyle $20,000 and then landed a lucrative state contract, is being told they can’t participate when the state travel contract is re-bid. The Chairman of the Republican Party of Wisconsin, Rick Graber says that as long as Jim Doyle hangs on to tainted campaign cash, voters have reason not to trust him.
“Governor Doyle’s zero-tolerance for ethical lapses seems to be a sliding scale,” Graber said, “If Jim Doyle isn’t willing to clean up his administration, the voters of Wisconsin will.” Despite the bi-partisan investigation and two federal indictments already, Governor Jim Doyle continues to keep $20,000 in campaign donations from Adelman Travel. Channel 27 News in Madison is reporting that Adelman Travel was told by the Doyle administration that it could not participate in the re-bidding of the state travel contract. Graber says Governor Doyle should return the Adelman cash. biddingfortravelnow.net bidding for travel
“Jim Doyle seems to be buying a one-way ticket out of the governor’s mansion,” Graber said, “If Adelman was the best deal for the state then, why wouldn’t they be the best deal for the state now? Clearly, campaign donations played a major role in their selection.” Investigators are also looking into whether campaign donations to Jim Doyle are tied to the sale of the Kewaunee nuclear plant last year. Executives of the utilities that owned the plant contributed heavily to the Doyle campaign in the months surrounding approval of the sale. The Doyle administration is also coming under fire for rewarding a political ally with a $500,000 contract for W-2 services, despite not meeting the goals set out in the last contract. Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel columnists Cary Spivak and Dan Bice uncovered connections between $32,000 in campaign contributions to Jim Doyle and the awarding of an $18.4-million contract to a Chicago-based firm. Last week, questions arose over the timing of campaign donations to Governor Doyle and the awarding of a no-bid contract to a California company. That California company was also involved in a pay-to-play scandal with Democrat Gray Davis. Chairman Graber says Jim Doyle’s ethical problems continue to pile up. site bidding for travel
“It seems like every day there are new revelations of Doyle’s pay-to-play tactics,” Graber said, ” Wisconsin deserves better and this fall, either Mark Green or Scott Walker will restore dignity to the East Wing of the State Capitol.”
