On Tuesday, January 31, Centre City Development Corporation (CCDC), Unified Port of San Diego, City of San Diego and SANDAG helped the San Diego County chapter of the Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) launch 2006 with a bus tour and briefing on the variety of transportation projects planned or underway in downtown San Diego. More than 60 people attended the event, including representatives from CalTrans, SANDAG, CCDC and the Port of San Diego. “WTS is an important organization that opens doors for women in an industry that has traditionally been dominated by men,” said CCDC Equal Opportunity Administrator Anne Marie Mowatt-Molina. “This event provided access to CCDC project managers, to enable more open communication.” Founded in 1977, WTS is an international organization dedicated to the professional advancement of women in transportation. With more than 4,000 members (60 percent women), WTS helps women find opportunity and recognition in the transportation industry through professional activities, networking opportunities, and access to industry and government leaders. go to web site downtown san diego web site downtown san diego

“With the tremendous amount of transportation-oriented projects planned or underway downtown, it is essential for CCDC to be inclusive in the bidding process,” said CCDC President Nancy Graham. CCDC is currently planning or under construction on nearly 20 transit-oriented public works projects, including the Park-to-Bay Link, India Street Revitalization Phase II, railway Quiet Zone, Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge, and the North Embarcadero Visionary Plan.

WTS’ next event will be on March 2, and feature Mayor Jerry Sanders as the keynote speaker. A venue has not yet been determined. Visit www.wtsinternational.org for more information. Contact: Derek Danziger, 619/533-7103, danziger@ccdc.com.
