Dent Sweat “More Than a Friend (Less Than a Lover)”
Dent May has made it pretty clear he doesn’t want to just be known by his cheeky/preppy, Jonathan Richman like songwriting that he brought to the world on his solid debut record Dent May and his Magnificent Ukulele. While he still does some touring, the last few tracks released from May have found him shedding his Uke in favor of drum machines and synths. Using his Dent Sweat moniker, he is back with a new song, although it apparently was recorded a while back. “More Than a Friend (Less Than a Lover)” is a slinky pop/R&B number that features crisp drums and even some auto tune. While it isn’t quite as amazing as his last cut, the pop gem “I Don’t Mind,” it is still interesting to hear May working through his different musical styles and showing that no matter what the genre, he is most definitely a talented guy.
