Case Studies: “The Eagle, Or The Serpent”
NYC label Sacred Bones is having a pretty solid year. In addition to releasing one of the year’s best albums thus far (The Men’s Leave Home) they have also fielded strong material from Woods (single), Amen Dunes, as well as a forthcoming LP from Zola Jesus. And low fi Washington folk artist Jesse Lortz (Case Studies) should be added to that list as well. I recently listened to his The World Is Just a Shape to Fill the Night, and while it may not be the best SB release this year, it is pretty decent. You can listen to the record’s first single “The Eagle, Or The Serpent” here – it’s a melancholy strummer with a haunting melody and backup singer’s whose pretty altos complement Lortz’s weary grumble.
