Destroyer “Leave Me Alone”

British magazine Mojo has pulled together current bands to cover the songs on the classic New Order LP Power, Corruption and Lies. One of the best choices was getting Destroyer (Dan Bejar), whose 2011 LP Kaputt traveled in the kind of new wave/electronic music that New Order helped make popular in the 1980s. There is something about Bejar’s deadpan vocals that add to the allure of the music, which itself is already overblown and nearly cheesy. New Order showed it could be done, and artists like Dan Bejar show that it still is relevant, both in his cover and his own work. You can pick up the CD of covers—also including tracks by The Golden Filter, Fujiya & Miyagi, and others—with the latest edition of Mojo.
