Fantasy Island “Avenue” & “Breaking a Heart”

I couldn’t find much information about Fantasy Island, an electro-soul duo comprised of Alex Jacob and Spencer Frazen, floating around the interwebs. They have a few songs on their soundcloud page and one 7” for sale, but seemingly no plans for an EP or LP in the near future. According to their Facespace page, their first song dropped on the world less than two months ago—so I’m guessing those things will be coming sooner rather than later. My pretty impressed, though, based on the two songs I’ve heard. “Avenue” sounds like what’s in vogue right now—like a Grizzly Bear song on Ambien, run through a hazy, lo-fi, bedroom recording structure. “Breaking a Heart” is like a slowed down Neon Indian/Toro Y Moi (or any other “chillwave” band) song, with spry synth stabs punctuated by a longing falsetto and an understated rhythm section. Both songs seem to follow certain templates, but neither feel forced or inauthentic. They showcase a band that I think we will be seeing/hearing a lot more from in the very near future.
