Introducing: Pillars and Tongues
Pillars and Tounges are an ambient pop band from Chicago that wrestle folk-based melodies through dissonant collages of noise and rattling chains. On “The Pass and Crossings,” there is a hazy crackle backdropping ominous strings and some male-female back-and-forth vocals. The dynamic of the singers seems to come from a deep sadness that is in search from some, any, redeeming factor in a crazy world. When listening to Pillars and Tongues, you can’t tell if it is the dark hour right before dawn or if the sun just might not come up. The band opens for Oneohtrix Point Never in a must see show tonight at the Cave in Northfield and play a show Saturday at an unnamed art space in Minneapolis. Get sleuthing!
