Frankie Rose "Interstellar" "Know Me" & "Night Swim"
I am a huge sucker for the fuzzed out guitar work fronted by sultry female singing that is in vogue right now, and Frankie Rose gets big credit for being a central figure to the scene. After spending time with Crystal Stilts, Vivian Girls and Dum Dum Girls, Rose has lately been spending her time honing her own material, which plays off the sounds that her previous bands had worked to refine. After an LP with her band The Outs, she is back with her latest LP, Interstellar, which finds her venturing on her own. You can listen to three songs from the LP below, including the poppy, more richly produced title track, which unfortunately finds her giving up the great piece of her sound for a more glamorous overall package. While the title track is a bit of a disappointment, she does redeem herself mostly with the euphoric fuzz of “Know Me” and sharp, reverb soaked pop edges of “Night Swim.” Clearly looking to expand and refine her sound, Rose is taking some chances with her sound, with some working and others seeming to give up on what made her so good in the first place. Hopefully, the rest of Interstellar leans more towards the “Know Me” and “Night Swim” side of the ledger.
