Schoolboy Q: “Sacrilegious”
West Coat rapper Schoolboy Q recently released what stands to be one of 2012’s best hip hop albums in Habits & Contradictions. Even so, there doesn’t seem to be a huge amount of excitement concerning the fact that the emcee will be performing a show at the Varsity Theater this Saturday, alongside locals Tribe & Big Cats! as well as Audio Perm. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t head out and check out the show this weekend though – considering his talent (not to mention the fact he pals around with guys like Kendrick Lamar and Jay Rock) you probably won’t get the chance to hear Q in such a small, intimate setting again. Have a listen to Habits & Contradictions‘ moody lead track “Sacrilegious” below and you will know what I mean. Schoolboy Q has a low-key, deliberate way of forming rhymes, and his dark themes and formidable wordsmithing instantly recalls great gritty rappers like Prodigy and Nas.
