Stream: The Goondas “Chud”
The Goondas aren’t going to blow your mind with expansive sound collages or intricate and through provoking multi faceted songs…but they seem like a fun band to listen to while consuming large quantities of beer. The local four piece released a 4 song 7″ titled Chud late last year, which you can stream below, and are headlining a solid bill of local bands tonight at the Varsity Theater. Opening up for the debauched cow-punks are The Rope, Fire in the Northern Firs and Hollow Boys. While the layered sounds of the openers, ranging from Joy Division-eaqe to noise pop, may contrast with the anti-everything-but-the-kitchen-sink sound (nothing but the walls?) of the Goondas, the band have proven their ability in the past to have a penchant to at least give an energetic and entertaining live performance. The four songs on Chud will sound familiar to those who heard the bands self titled debut LP in 2010, with large doses of twangy guitars, a driving rhythm section and faux Iggy Pop vocals stretching out on top of it all. The one outlier is the 54 second “Seizure Boy,” which is their stab at faster than hell hardcore punk. Listen to the 7″ below (& buy a copy if from the band if you like it) and don’t miss the solid lineup tonight at the Varsity Theater. Doors are at 7 and tickets will cost you $7.
