Chapter 24: “Spindle”
Chapter 24 are a new noise/post punk quartet out of the UK whom Rough Trade are calling “tropical punk” though based on what I have heard I wouldn’t describe it as such. Based on their single “Spindle” it sounds like they make lo-fi, melodic noise punk that is anchored by urgently thrashed guitars, uptempo drums and lead singer Claire Smith’s disdainful howl. Its a little rawer, full of energy, and considerably less “psychobilly” than the band they seem to get compared to most often, the Cramps. This of course, however, is all based on one single “Spindle” which you can listen to below and pick up from Odd Box Records (with B side “4454”). I like it, and hope there is more to come that is a lot like this.
Chapter 24 will be performing in St. Paul on March 3rd at the Turf Club.
