Hanetration: “Rex”
Here’s some interesting music out of London. Hanetration is an experimental electronic artist who traffics in field recordings, glitchy static, and noise. I don’t normally enjoy a lot of this stuff, but “Rex” is particularly compelling—probably because the mess of noise is anchored to a steady beat well-suited to offset the chaos of the tune’s garbled drone. Also it’s got far-out ambient melodies at the beginning and end of the song, lending it a mystical, psychedelic vibe. I don’t know much about this guy: Only a short email with a link to his bandcamp arrived in my inbox the other day. There’s something to be said for a little bit of mystery.
