Download the Blue Ruin EP

Blue Ruin is a fairly new local band playing a smooth fusion of classic punk, bluesy rock, and garage that doesn’t fall into the pratfalls of the respective genres. The quartet recently fired off a short, self-titled EP—technically they’re calling it a single—and have it up for free download at Bandcamp.  You can also listen below.

“Tough Guys” rollicks like an early-’90s punk anthem, but with charming rootsy twang. Think 1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours-era Green Day . . . when the band wasn’t pandering to prepubescent girls or major record labels. My favorite is “What’s Your Story,” a borderline-rockabilly barn-burner that would sound at home at both a Nashville folk-rock festival or a London warehouse show. “Star of a Western” crams hard, melodic rock under Tom Waits-lite vocals.

Connect over at Facebook, if you’re into that sort of thing.
