Magic Castles “Death Dreams” & “Ballad of the Golden Birds”
Local pysch dudes Magic Castles have been playing around Minneapolis for a while, but have a golden opportunity for national attention with their new record on the Anton Newcombe-curated label “a” Records. Newcombe (of Brian Jonestown Massacre notoriety) is a big fan of the band and now is collecting material from the band’s first three (out of print) records onto two high-quality slabs of vinyl. For local fans who missed the boat the first time around, check out two songs below that capture the group’s warm, late-60’s pysch-pop-meets-Spaceman-3 ambiance. No surprise Newcombe likes them, really. My prediction: The material will captivate a wider audience with this re-release.
