Heliotrope 9: Jon’s Recommended Picks
THURSDAY:
Noise Queen Ant:
I don’t know that much about Noise Queen Ant except that they were a local experimental band consisting of Scott Brown, Brady Lenzen, and Blake Peterson that used to play pretty often five or six years ago but then completely fell off the map. There isn’t much in the way of reference on the internet either other than this raucous cover of whatever that song is called that they always play at ball games. Out of all of us I think Adam is the only one who has seen them live before.
.
FRIDAY:
Brute Heart
I have seen them play probably about a dozen times but Brute Heart are still one of the best bands in the Twin Cities right now. And they always seem to pull out a really killer performance for Heliotrope – I am sure this year will be no exception. Listen to them here.
.
SATURDAY
TVBC
TVBC is a legendary Twin Cities band that has recently begun playing the occasional show again but I still have not had a chance to catch them. originally consisting of instrumental wizard Paul Metzger, Marshall Metzger, Pat Dzieweczynski, and Freddy Votel, TVBC mixed elements of punk, jazz, and noise. Their heydey was the late eighties and early nineties, but I am willing to bet they are still great to hear today. Listen to them here.
