Oneohtrix Point Never “I Only Have Eyes for You” and “Call Me Anytime”
Despite being, you know, an electronic artist and producer who has done them before , I never have tagged Oneohtrix Point Never as someone who would do remixes. His sound seems, to me, above the process of tweaking someone else’s material. With Returnal, Replica and Rifts serving as touchstone ambient records for me, I had a hard time wrapping my head around OPN mastermind Daniel Loptian spending his time deconstructing other peoples work. Despite my inability to absorb the songs, they are as good as you would expect from Lopitan. “I Only Have Eyes for You” finds him stripping the classic pop song to its bone, while “Call Me Anytime” is a Lindstrom track that gets a OPN rework. Both are below. Find out for yourself if Lopitan is as good at tweaking others as he is at making his own songs.
