The Tribe x Big Cats! “Pills”
The Tribe and Big Cats! seem poised to be the next big thing in the local hip hop scene (which is either the best thing ever or the most overrated thing in the universe). The first song released from their forthcoming Space LP, out July 10th, is the chilled out groove of “Pills.” The beat supplied by Big Cats!, who I know mostly from his work with Guante, is a smoked out but thick groove that circles around a smokey piano riff. Truthbetold drops some smooth but heavy rhymes that bring a subtle intensity to the otherwise laid back track, musing on the stresses of life and the pills we use to get through the day. If the whole record is as good as the lead single, their will be more fuel on the “hip hop mecca” side of the ledger.
