Meadowlands “U8”
I was, like a lot of music nerds, a big fan of the Chocolate Bobka website run by Michael McGregor. Sure, I can find most of the same music from other sites, but his writing was often as good or better than the music he was posting. When he quit running the site, he talked about doing some of his own stuff, which I hoped would be at least comparable to his writing, which was/is sorely missed. Luckily the material we have seen trickle out has been solid and a logical next step for a writer who leaned heavily towards spaced out material. First we got some work he released for free with Free Spirit and recently he has been dropping ambient/drone material under the Meadowlands moniker. Now we have a local connection with Music From Mainzer Straße, the latest CS from McGregor which is being released on the Moon Glyph label. Listen below to the track “U8,” which is a six plus minute synth excursion in restrained ambiance. The track is a rich, meditative journey that sounds like molten lava creeping over the rocks, slowly molding and forming on its journey. I’m looking forward to diving into the whole release. Grab the tape from the Moon Glyph site.
