Harry Taussig “Rondo in D – On Southern Themes”
Usually a few years between albums seems like an eternity, but how about 47? Before it’s 2006 reissue, Harry Taussig only had one full length album to his name, the rare private pressing Fate Is Only Once. Taussig only had one other recording to his name which was on John Fahey’s Takoma record label and was a compilation including Fahey, Robbie Basho, Max Ochs and Bukka White. Stylistically similar to Basho and Fahey, Taussig’s recordings were all solo guitar reworkings of folk tunes alternating with his own compositions. After years of writing instructional books among other things, Taussig has reappeared with a followup album entitled Fate Is Only Twice. “Rondo In D” is the first preview of the album and while he’s lost a little bit of the nimbleness to his playing, all the original elements that made his guitar playing compelling are still there on the meandering track. Looking forward to this one.
