Big Cats! “One”
Two things I love are good, soulful instrumental hip hop and projects that has some greater purpose to them. That puts me right in the wheelhouse of the forthcoming Big Cats! LP For My Mother. First off, his work is always rock solid, doing beats for artists like The Tribe and Guante that never cut corners and always seem to have that texture that makes certain producers stand out from the crowd. The second reason this album is so cool is that it is a tribute to his late mother, who died recently from ovarian cancer. Judging from “One,” the first song released from the record, it is going to be a heavy, contemplative record. Like Eddie Hazel on Maggot Brain where he created songs out of the thoughts of the pain of his mother passing, it seems like Big Cats! has taken this sad event and is working to make something beautiful out of it in tribute to his mother. Proceeds from the sales go to ovation cancer research, so pre-order either the vinyl or CD HERE and catch the record release show on Oct. 11th at the Cedar Cultural Center.
