The Very Best (feat K’NAAN) “We OK”
The music that The Very Best create could easily fall into a mode that would be cheesy and trite. Yet, despite the fact that my body is filled with 206 cynical bones, I can’t seem to stamp this group with that label. When Esau Mwamwaya sings “We OK” over and over, despite knowing better, I can’t help but believe him. Maybe it is because they put on such a great show a few years back at the Cedar, one of those shows that seems to breath live into a room, or maybe I am just getting soft with old age, but I can’t help but like this song and this band. Maybe it would fade if I actually listed to their whole new album, the strangely titled MTMTK. Either way, this song is bursting at the seams with life and I am not going to try to figure out why I like it. There is enough stuff in life that brings you down…I won’t try to figure out why this does not.
