Ariel Pinks Haunted Grafitti “Only In My Dreams”
Between the much more polished sounds of his last 4AD released album Before Today and the title of his forthcoming record, Mature Themes, there was some music nerd hand wringing that Ariel Pinks Haunted Graffiti might be completely shedding their lo-fi skin. Luckily, that doesn’t seem to be the case at all. On the first original song released from the LP (they did drop their cover of “Baby”), the band venture deep into their warm but destroyed version of pop music that makes them so great. “Only in My Dreams” is a twangy, acid fried song that features the rich melody done just off kilter that the group has always done so well. While this isn’t the band re-creating the beautiful chaos of The Doldrums, longtime fans can rest assured this isn’t going to getting played alongside the next Kings of Leon record.
