Brute Heart Perform “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” Tonight + Song from Soundtrack
When Brute Heart performed their score to the 1920’s silent film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari this summer as the capstone performance for the Loring Music and Movies series, it was one of those events where you could smugly say “you had to be there.” The soundtrack the group created was moody yet beautiful, obtuse but emotionally rich, avant garde but strangely human. It brought to life a twisted silent film, although honestly I zoned out of the movie and just soaked in the waves of music under the beautiful summer night. Walking away from performance that night, my group commented that it was too bad that something so amazing was a one time event. Luckily, that has changed. The group will be releasing the performance on Moon Glyph and, even better, are performing the score again tonight at the Cedar. The show tonight, which will also include puppets and an opening set by Makr, couldn’t be more highly recommended. Proving conclusively that they are one of the most creative and talented bands in our scene, this movie/soundtrack is an outstanding achievement and something that should not be missed.
