The Knife “Full of Fire” & The Flaming Lips “Sun Blows Up Today”
Two big name bands who are known and loved for their off-kilter approach to the music biz have graced our presence with new videos in the last week. First is the fuzz explosion of “Sun Blows Up Today” from the forthcoming The Flaming Lips LP The Terror. Like a colorful firecracker of noise, the track is the first taste from the bands upcoming LP, which was promised to be “bleak.” At least from the first song, the record doesn’t feel too dark, especially considering our other offering, the epic “Full of Fire” from Swedish electronic duo The Knife’s upcoming LP Shaking the Habitual, their first proper release since 2006. The harrowing track, stretched out over close to 10 minutes of dance floor mayhem, is matched with a heavy “short film” style music video (that is very NSFW) that expands on the themes of the track and asks “who looks after my story.” It is a rare event that the Flaming Lips are the “normal, buttoned up” group in a pair, but they definitely come across that way juxtaposed with the new track from The Knife. The songs are great and have us excited for the albums, both of which drop in April.

just FWIW, ‘Sun Blows Up Today’ isn’t on the new album, it was written specifically for their Hyundai Super Bowl commercial, which they star in:
