Thee Oh Sees “Minotaur”
Like their friend Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees have that unique talent to produce material that is staggering both in quantity and quality. Less than a year after their last LP, the Oh Sees are back with the mid tempo “Minotaur,” which is the opening salvo for their forthcoming Floating Coffin, out on their own Castle Face label. As burnt out as ever, “Minotaur” is a hard scrabble story of the challenges of life, told over the willowy backing vocals and just slightly fuzzy instrumentation (including cello!), a gentle look into the often acid-fried and demented world the band have created over the last decade. Word has it that the album isn’t as gentle as the closing track implies. We will find out April 16th when the LP drops. Here is to hoping the band roll through MPLS/St. Paul again soon with their explosive live shows, as they are always a treat to see.
